Saunders Global "Odyssey"

GlobeBustersKevin & Julia Saunders used an Odyssey battery on their record breaking trip around the world. Kevin Saunders said "Setting off on the ultimate endurace ride to beak the world record for the Fastest Ride around the World, we would be asked a lot from our bike. With heated grips, vests, intercom and satellite tracker all running from the bike we had to upgrade the standard battery to Hawker Odyssey PC680. We would also be riding in extremes of temperature, so the Hawker Odyssey was a natural choice. We had to be safe in the knowledge that the battery was up to the job, and it was" (operational temperature range of Odyssey batteries -20°C to +60°C.

Subject: OTC Racing Update.
Hi Doug / John / Pete

OTC RacingDisaster I'm afraid, we raced at Outline Park on the 19th of April and although it started out great, it ended in disaster. The first race we started on the grid position 22 and after a good charge forward rounded Old hall corner in fourth place, then moved up the field to take first place. After a great battle with Bill Curry we finally finished the race in second place. We found out later that day that we had set a lap record for the new circuit layout.

Anyway the second race began and from the lights changing we had taken the lead and continued to pull away from the rest of the pack. As we came over the rise at hill top we started to brake for the right hander into the new chicane. Just at that moment an F1 machine who had totally overlooked the fact that we had braked for the turn decided he was on the old circuit and continued straight up the old circuit layout ploughing into the side of us as we turned across the front of him. After several rolls, bumps and bangs we found ourselves looking at a disastrous sight of the bike upside down and the engine racing along in the chassis without oil.

OTC RacingNeedless to say this is disastrous to the team. Roger has broken his hand which means a trip to London to see if a new type of treatment can repair it in time for the TT. The bike is going back to the chassis builder for repairs and it now needs a complete body kit + engine. We are in urgent need of leathers and helmets once again. Due to this we missed the third round of the British Championships.

Peter

P/S The Battery is working great and would appear to be the only thing not be damaged !

Harley Davidson EVO ElectroglideShort Story.. Harley-Davidson centenary celebrations in a few weeks time, and after time spent on working getting the Harley ready, now with a much more highly tuned engine. The original battery could hardly turn it over and, despite fitting a brand X high-performance battery, it still struggled to start it. So the motivation for buying a BB4U was to improve starting the bike. Visited their website, www.bb4u.biz, read the information, ordered a battery, received a phone call to confirm the vehicle, Harley Davidson EVO Electroglide, yes, requires an Odyssey PC680, price £86.58 and we can post it to you. Done deal, comes with 2 years warranty. Fitted it the day it arrived, so kit on, finger the button, starts and down the road I go for a short test ride. Great.

Hi, Yes I did purchase an odyssey battery for my Ducati and would like to say that it is working perfectly, I have just started the bike up after 6 months of inactivity, and the battery started the bike first press, this has never happened before in 10 years of ownership, so thanks again,
Spike.

Hi,
Took delivery of your Odessey PC680 battery for my Ducati Monster on sat morn, must say I was sceptical of the power when I saw the size, but went ahead and fitted the battery to the bike. Could not believe the power these things have, my bike is a big bore 11 : 1 compression motor and has always struggled to turn over.  Not any more!
I thought the bike was going to jump of the ground, this battery will turn the bike over easily even at full throttle (compression at highest) so the only thing to say is thank you for selling a product that really does what it says on the tin.

My previous battery, the Morgan Factory original on my 2003 +8, would be flat within ten days of storage unless on some sort of trickle charger. It was in fine condition otherwise and would start the 4.0 V8 engine no trouble.
The new Odyssey can be left for three or four weeks without a trickle charger and starts the car first time, evey time. I left the side lights on overnight ... battery utterly dead having been slowly exhausted.

Jump leads to restart, after 20 mins at idle it would start the car again. If this battery ever gives up the ghost I will be buying another.

BMWA keen motorcyclist I currently own a 1984 BMW K100RS which I've had seven years and a 1999 RRX Fire blade. Spring 2002 saw the Blade requiring a new battery which the immobilize had rendered US.

This I replaced also purchasing an Optimate charger as well in an attempt to prolong battery life.

I was somewhat miffed within a month to find I was going to have to replace the BMW's battery also. In passing a friend put me onto a new battery called Odyssey which he informed me was more powerful, longer lasting and smaller in size.

Reading up on the Odyssey it looked impressive and as an electrical/telecoms engineer the data made good sense even if the battery was a little more expensive.

I've since fitted the battery (small mod needed adding a strap to hold it in place as the Odyssey is half the size) and what a difference, the literature talks of cranking power which I took with a pinch of salt - sales talk. Oh no, the difference in the turning over of the engine is very very clear. Thus firing sooner and putting less stress on the starter.

A new product that does what it says so I'll be fitting one to the Blade when needed next.
Well recommended.
Thank You.

Dear BB4U

Just a short note to let you Know that I have fitted the PC545 to my VN750 Trike. I had to make a new box just behind the original, but managed to keep one of the original terminal fittings. It looks superb now, and the trike starts a treat, even when warm which is something of anovelty, as warm starts were always a big hassle before. I can't speak highly enough of your Odyssey battery, and so far I haven't had to use the Coulombi charger, but I know I have it in an emergency (for when someone else's battery lets them down!)

There's something quite addictive about the way that a modified turbocharged car can warp time and distance. My Nissan 200sx has been discretely modified to make over 300 hp and 300 ft/lbs torque. That, in a car weighing just 1290 kg stock, gives unbelievable grunt. It gets better. A simple weight-loss programme has saved around 50kg, which on an already light car, gives it an even sharper performance edge - as well as making it very easy on brake pad and tyre wear. Getting rid of the spare wheel, jack and associated tools (aerosol tyre sealant works fine for flat tyres!) saved a lot of weight and is less hassle anyway. And more recently, swapping the standard battery for an Odyssey PC680 saved a further 8.2kg. The battery is brilliant. The car starts immediately, every time. There's a lot more cold cranking amps than is needed to start the 2 litre four, especially since turbo charging means it runs a lowish compression of 8.5:1. If fact, this battery will start a V8 truck engine. You wouldn't believe it judging by the size! To sum up, this battery is something that all 4-cylinder turbo performance car owners should consider.

ODYSSEY PC1700 BATTERY

I have an American "People Carrier", the yanks call them MPVs (Multi Purpose Vehicles) and for me that is right as I use it for everything from camping to shifting rubbish. When it comes to it's camping use the quality of the battery becomes very important as the interior lights and stereo see extensive use without the motor being started. After a couple of occasions when the existing battery was drained too low to start the van after a weekend away I was on the lookout for a battery with a whole lot more storage capacity. There is no opportunity in the Pontiac to fit a "leisure battery" and I did not want to alter the van's wiring.
Pete from bb4u recommended an Odyssey PC1700 because of it's ability to start the MPV's 3.1 litre V6 motor with only 30% charge left in it. This battery holds masses more charge than the original but is only slightly larger and is able to give up 70% to recreational use without leaving me unable to start the van.
There are other advantages too: -
1) The General Motors use batteries with terminals on the side so swapping is a conventional UK battery can need the cables to be cut and changed.

The Odyssey will work as normal when placed on it's side effectively putting the terminals on the side right where the van's wiring loom needs them. This together with the terminal adaptation kit that comes with the battery made inhalation the same as putting in a factory original but with bags more power.

2) The extra reserve of power in the Odyssey has speeded up the power windows and the van now bursts into life on the first turn of the key. I also have an Odyessy in my Gilera Supermoto motorcycle. It's 600cc single cylinder engine is notoriously hard to start. Most batteries cannot keep the starter churning long enough to fire the motor if the conditions are not ideal. When I fitted the Odyssey which was the same physical size as the previous battery on the bike starting became totally reliable in all conditions.
